The Stacy Difference

Science-Based Methods

My methods are rooted in behavioral science and positive reinforcement. Research in operant conditioning demonstrates that reinforced behaviors increase reliably, while aversive methods risk stress and fallout. I focus on clear communication, motivation, and skill building so behavior change is lasting.

For those who like receipts, explore B.F. Skinner’s work on learning theory and the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s statements on humane training practices.

Reward-Based Training

Reward-based training means I teach your dog what to do and reinforce those behaviors so they become reliable. Decades of research in operant conditioning show that behaviors followed by reinforcement increase in frequency and strength.

Instead of relying on fear or discomfort, I use motivation, clear communication, and structured practice to build lasting skills.

What is a Yes Trainer?

A “Yes Trainer” is a mindset.

It means I focus on reinforcing what is going right instead of waiting to correct what is going wrong. I do not just stop unwanted behavior. I teach and strengthen a better alternative until it becomes the obvious choice.

Dogs repeat what works. When calm, focus, and polite behavior consistently pay off, they become habits.

Kind Does Not Mean Soft

Yes training is not permissive. It is intentional, structured, and rooted in how learning actually happens. The result is a dog who understands the rules, feels confident following them, and responds because they know what works, not because they fear getting it wrong.

Science, Structure, and a Redhead Who Means It

I have been doing this for 26 years. I am certified, experienced, and not easily rattled. Redheads are known for their fire. I use mine for consistency, clarity, and follow-through.

Your puppy will get structure. You will get straight answers.
And yes, the red hair comes with persistence.

Real Life. Real Families. Real Schedules.

I understand that you have a life outside of your dog. Kids. Work. Activities. Exhaustion. Noise.

I do not expect you to rearrange your entire world around your puppy. I teach you how to train within your lifestyle, not abandon it. Training should support your life, not take it over.

I help you build structure that fits into busy days, chaotic evenings, and real family dynamics. The goal is not perfection. The goal is a dog who can live successfully in your world.

And yes, I will hold you accountable, but I will also make it doable.

Raising Dogs Should Feel Good

My Story

This is where I started. My first dog, in college, bit me and left a scar. I knew I needed to learn why for myself and for others.
I was bewildered and sad.

I didn’t want to punish him. I only wanted to understand him.

I left college, packed my bags, and moved to New York City to attend dog training school full-time. Because I needed answers. And I knew other people needed them too ... and so it began for me ...

Replace overwhelm

I believe puppyhood and adolescence shouldn’t feel chaotic or defeating. With the right guidance, behavior becomes predictable, training becomes clear, and calm becomes normal. My vision is simple: homes where dogs are understood, families feel capable, and the relationship between them grows stronger at every stage.

Understanding behavior

When my dog bit me, I didn’t want to punish him, I wanted to understand him. That moment pushed me to move to New York City and immerse myself in learning theory and canine behavior.

From teaching group classes to opening my private training business in 2003, I have dedicated my career to helping families navigate real-life challenges using science-based, reward-focused methods that truly work.

I began training professionally in 1999, long before certification was common in the industry. I eventually earned my Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) credential in 2018 and became a Certified Fear Free Professional in 2017. I will be honest, I am not a fan of tests and probably waited longer than I should have. But formal credentials matter, and I wanted my experience to be backed by recognized standards in modern, humane training.

The foundation has always been the same: understand the dog, teach with clarity, and build trust that lasts.

Promise

Proven in real life, backed by science

You won’t find intimidation, outdated dominance myths, or quick fixes here. I teach you how behavior works, how development influences it, and how to respond in ways that build habits that stick. If you’re willing to put in thoughtful effort, I’ll give you a clear plan, practical strategies, and support that leads to real, lasting calm.

Personal
First and foremost, I’m a wife and mom. That responsibility drives the integrity, patience, and standards I bring to my work.

Rooted at Home: Wife, Mom of Three, and Dog Mom to Two

At home, I’m a wife to an incredibly patient and supportive husband, mom to three amazing teenage daughters, and dog mom to a Beagle (Charlotte) and a Boston Terrier (Betty). Building my career while raising a family required intentional decisions, strong boundaries, and a lot of teamwork. Like any household with teens and dogs, we’ve navigated challenges, busy seasons, and growing pains — but the result is a grounded, supportive family that lives the same structure, consistency, and relationship-based leadership I teach every day.
